How Motorola Smartphone Market has a firm hold on Mexico
Mexico has around 127 million active smartphone users, and it goes without saying that there are advantages to being the country’s mobile gaming leader.
However, neither Samsung nor its main rival, Apple, are at the top of the Mexican food chain. According to a recent survey, Motorola was the largest OEM in Mexico in Q2 2022, with a 28% share of smartphone sales. (Source: Telecompaper).
The Cupertino company gained 3%, accounting for 16% of the market. Motorola smartphone market share climbed by 5% in Q2 2022, while Samsung’s share stayed unchanged from the previous year. Xiaomi, Oppo, and Huawei were also significant smartphone brands. Xiaomi had a 13% market share, while Oppo and Huawei had 11% and 5%, respectively.
Despite Motorola’s smartphone market dominance in Mexico, Samsung was the country’s second-largest OEM for the three-month period ending in June. During the quarter, the business secured 26% of smartphone sales. In the third position, Apple was followed by Samsung.

Samsung’s CEO recently traveled to Mexico to meet with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, although this had little to do with the company’s smartphone performance.
Instead, Samsung’s Lee Jae-Yong has urged the Mexican President’s support for the Busan World Expo 2030.
