He’s a Chiss and a tactical genius, and his presence in the Disney canon has been teased a few times, most notably in The Mandalorian, where a certain character named Moff Gideon had a weapon called the Darksaber. In Rebels, Thrawn was voiced by Lars Mikkelsen, and we can only hope he’ll return for this new series.
Morgan Elsbeth was the antagonist of The Mandalorian’s “The Jedi” episode, where she was played by Diana Lee Inosanto. It’s interesting to see her return, as she was apparently defeated by Ahsoka in that episode. We don’t know in which capacity she’ll be back, but it could be as Thrawn’s ally, or even as his adversary. In the trailer, we see her in what looks like a throne room, with two guards flanking her, and her eyes glowing blue, indicating she’s using the Force.
Ahsoka vs. Baylan The final part of the trailer shows Ahsoka battling Baylan and his apprentice. Ahsoka’s lightsabers are shorter than usual, but this isn’t the first time we’ve seen her using shoto blades instead of regular ones. The fight takes place in a forest, and it looks intense, with Ahsoka performing acrobatics and using the Force to propel herself higher. Baylan seems to be using the same kind of energy blast that Moff Gideon used in The Mandalorian, so it could be a signature move of the Imperials in this era.
One interesting detail is that Baylan is wearing a cloak that’s similar to the one worn by the Inquisitors in Rebels. It’s unclear if he’s one of them, or if he’s affiliated with them in any way, but it’s a cool reference nonetheless. His apprentice, on the other hand, wears an outfit that looks similar to the one worn by Darth Revan in the Knights of the Old Republic video game, which is another nice nod to the wider Star Wars lore.
